The Malaise of a Konsumer Kulture

Welcome to our illusory world of Hocus-pocus...of Abra-cadabra.

A World which is becoming increasingly Unreal and Synthetic...

If the Corporations can Fake it, bake and shake it...create a synthetic or imitation version of a product which looks or smells as good, or tastes almost as good as the real thing, then they will make that decision to imitate the genuine article every time!

Rather than sell the original authentic version of a product, due to their irrational and addict-like mind-set, and being addicted to Profit before any 'human' consideration, the Corporations will obsessively seek out a method of manufacturing their trade-marked alternative, their copy on an automated production line without human interference...

Driven by a deluded philosophy of Consumerism which states: Anything that is NEW...of Today, has to be better, by definition, than what is Old, of Yesterday.

They will then package it neatly to catch the eye, expending and creating more waste in the process, and following this they will market it all with a slick campaign of Spin and Lies...a campaign in the media and in cyber-space which further pollutes our sub-conscious terrain and collective reality.

Now, multiply this process a billion times a day and you have an idea of why we are all so Soul-dead and shell-shocked, why for those of us who live in the Capitalist West everything appears to be under threat of some kind, no longer makes any sense and appears to behave backwards to it's aims, and it explains why we are already half-dead inside...

It is for the same reason that our dreams are sometimes so exhausting and uncomfortable...
Our inner-voices are colliding in cognitive dissonance.

There is a distinct, identifiable schism in our modern age, one which had already been identified by the late 18th Century, and produced all that flowery prose in England and prolific writing of essays, especially in France.
In the early stages of Western Industrialization,
Romanticism began as a fresh new departure that represented a change, a maturation of Man's view.

Religion was slowly being eroded by the idolatry and new idealism of 'The Machine', and the resulting vacuum of atheism which the emergence of the machine had produced, was now being replaced by a new apprehension and appreciation of Nature, and our unique place within it by some of the leading artists, scientists and intellectuals of the day.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau for example (1712-1778) confessed himself to be a firm advocate.

Wanderer above the Fog ~ German Romantic Painter Caspar David Friedrich 1818

The Romantic movement in Western Art simply stated that pure logic and rationality alone were insufficient to answer all the really big questions of Life.
That for Human beings to be truly healthy and fulfilled, they required a Spiritual relationship with their environment and their surroundings.

This late 18th C school of thought appears to be rapidly re-emerging as our modern day plight, our disconnection with 'reality' appears to be ever more noticeable, intrusive and starkly defined as an irreconcilable rift between what we 'Feel' and what we 'See' and are forced to 'Do'...

We are moving in a direction which is anathema to Mother Nature...

Directly into the furious, tempestuous winds of Gaia we march, like foolish children into the fog, who are emboldened by each other's presence, as we continue headlong on our blind pathological quest to pursue the ultimate in divinity...in God-like power.

We have been shaped and conditioned for over a century now, by Corporate agendas which have taken control of our Governments, and they have sculpted and molded us into insensitive, unempathetic and short-sighted creatures who have lost touch with our origins, our roots and our hearth, our Spiritual home Mother Earth.

Gaia or Mother Earth

Obedience and a sense of tribal Patriotism have always been smiled upon by our Corporate media:

"He was a law-abiding man who loved his Country and joined the Marines" was often the opening plot description.

And why wouldn't he be?

After all, War is a racket, the most profitable and the most heinous racket there is, and loving your Country means that he or she will fight on foreign shores for it; "My Country right or wrong"

Gee Whiz, now wasn't that just about every single story on American television and cinema in the 40's, 50's and 60's?

Not necessarily the entire military aspect, but they sure as Apple-pie always Loved their Country and the brave Men and Women who defended it.

I cannot recall ever seeing an American movie of that particular vintage which featured a conflicted Hero who hated and despised his Country...that was just inconceivable, the propaganda was so intense.

Whereas artists or individualists or anyone who didn't completely conform to the official party line or anyone with a different point of view to that of the Corporations was a potential threat, and was speedily and effectively marginalized as a fringe lunatic by the talking heads.

For example the repressive McCarthy era, which had Americans petrified and looking under their beds for Reds (communists) and crying out for War.

The Corporations predictably still hold the reins of Government, and so very little has changed, except perhaps the incredibly shrinking duration of peace between the wars.

Sensitivity has now become an unmanageable and bothersome attribute which just gets in the way... a needless band-width of irrelevant noise which hinders the Corporation's agenda to control both our bodies and our minds.

True Artistic conviction and sensibilities can no longer be afforded, but a wan imitation, a superficial performance of them can always be found in the Media and the Corporate Press, being used to sell a particular message, over and over again ad nauseum.

The Corporatocracy and it's privatized education system does not encourage or foster the exceptional, the original, the creative or the revolutionary human being, it simply manufactures mediocrity and obedient serfs.

As a part of the herd, as slaves, we silently comply with the System's never-ending, unspoken objective...

We obediently participate in the collective Crimes of Reality as our economic System goes about literally attempting to pervert and re-shape Nature and the trajectory of it's course, attempting to bend it towards society's own vain and ignoble, commercially driven image, whilst on a certain sub-conscious level, we still yearn to ride with, rather than against, the miraculous forces which shape our environment.

A quiet inner-voice of ours still whispers from the Wild...sometimes invading our dreams over-night and leaving in their wake, a fresh Crop-Circle of patterns that resonate inside us, harmonies that celebrate our place within the natural order, instead of ignoring our position and defying our symbiotic relationship.

What grand, foolish and ultimately tragic Hubris we are displaying collectively as a Species!

How 'intelligent' would our behavior as a species appear to a visiting Alien spacecraft I often wonder?

To imagine that we 'Animals' are somehow transcendentally different and divinely special is a dangerous vanity indeed...

Revealing our insecurities, neuroses and existential dread about our future only in the dead of night, and once again motivated out of Fear, we tell ourselves that our 'intelligence' alone is somehow enough to give us moral supremacy and ownership over all that we survey, that we are thereby categorically separated from the Animal Kingdom and our environment, and that by using our clouded logic and relying on the time-honored traditions of the past, we can safely ignore the Laws of Nature.

In fact we consciously design machines, technology and processes which work directly in conflict with, and in direct opposition to these Laws, and yet we still do not dwell on or expect any serious ramifications or consequences.

I guess this is not so surprising when we remember that our old Institutions of Western thought have never understood or recognized the inevitability of our present predicament, even our Religious establishments have always been silent on the wisdom of ecological sustainability.

It is only when we leave behind Pride & the Imperialistic over-reach of Rome and the 'exceptionalism ' of America, and begin to examine the ancient texts of the East, such as Taoism and Buddhism, and the songs of the indigenous peoples of the Earth, that we again discover an inherent wisdom which retains it's relevance right up to the present day, and contains that necessary reverence for our environment and for Life itself, which is so familiar to Eco-Activists today.

The design of our Western World today, in 2017, has more in common with a cancerous carbuncle than any logically designed process of Economic management... in fact it is sheer madness and obviously the product of a diseased mindset and philosophy.

It's a dysfunctional, pathological ethos which laces the seeds for it's own extinction into the fabric of its own design, and we can sense this malign, disturbed destiny that hangs menacingly over us all, as it invades our minds on a sub-conscious level, filling our heads with a heavy cloud of unspoken anxiety, a relentless soul-sapping 'angst' which never quite goes away.

Consciously avoiding inconvenient truths is a luxury we can no longer afford as our technology continues to transform us, hastening change and quickening it's own pace.

Our concept of distance has been smashed by our technology and we have run out of 'other hills to cross', other rivers and valleys to pollute.

Among the influential philosophies of the past which have given birth to our modern-age views, during the age of Adam Smith (1723-1790) and John Locke (1632-1704) in particular, who were two of Capitalism's seminal Grandfathers, the concept of Land and Property was refined and worked into a body of thought which we recognize today as our very own, even though it has come out of an era which was dramatically colored by their particular, technologically limited perspective of a vast world so large, that in some cases it took years to traverse from one country or continent to another on the other side of the planet.

This was an 'Age' in which there was always another hill to cross...another river to ford...
an obviously deeply embedded and erroneous assumption, and an example of the type of false thinking which has been swept away, as other new anachronisms are revealed, by the ever advancing light of our science and technology.

So we stand on a new plateau overlooking a brand new topography...one rarely glimpsed by the great minds of the past, and it is for this reason i.e ~

We have arrived at a time in history unique for humanity, one wherein assorted disaster scenarios have pooled together and have culminated at the Gates, like 'Riders of the Apocalypse' at their collectively ominous, hockey-stick moment of exponential growth.

Tremendous forces of change are now looming on the horizon.

Due to the vulnerability of our position on a planet where every single Life-process is in decline, I humbly propose that the moment for an educational, cultural and intellectual revolution has arrived...

We should finally and utterly reject the cliched institutional influences of the past, their tired old assumptions and their parroting ideological schools of thought, as it is now increasingly evident that the end-goal plan of the Capitalists, the myth of the American Dream was always doomed to fail...as it was constructed out of false premises and superstitions.

An end to 'ISMS'...An end to all antiquated Ideological and Religious thinking which, without evidence assumes that the 'new wine' of our Present reality can be poured and fits neatly into the old, fragmenting wine-skin of the Past.

What poor, blind fools we are...we have lost our way, and we are now stumbling obliviously through an utterly new and alien landscape, one which reeks from it's unnatural origins, which shakes and trembles beneath our feet.

A world that is silently killing us with a profusion of brand new toxic substances that swarm unknown and undetectable through our atmosphere...

These are chemicals which are reacting with each other in a real-world setting, in a process that is only now at this present moment being unwittingly trialed and tested by it's participants, a sleep-walking, captive audience.

We are somewhat reminiscent of caged rodents ...and while those unfortunate, caged mammals in research laboratories around the world continue to feed off each others anxiety, their piercing cries against the unknown should humbly remind us all that we share a common fate with our animal cousins in our involuntary role as test-subjects, trapped behind neon-lit bars, as we continue to live and breath deep inside the unconscious and unthinking commercial experiment that is our consumer-based World.
